this book is full of bi erasure, ace erasure, and terf talking points. it excuses men fetishizing bi women as long as they're hot. it excuses women sexually harassing each other in public as long as they're hot. i can't believe a book this awful exists. my full review is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtCnN...
This book felt oddly biphobic and misognyistic for a book about literal same sex acts for ladies.
So disappointed that an author I previously thought highly of would write such a misogynistic, biphobic, homophobic, predatory piece of trash that teaches straight women adjacent to power to objectify, fetishize, and exploit marginalized women. So gross of Jen Sincero. Gross, tone deaf, and disrespectful.
At first, I found the humor is this book to be a little too broad, a little too sassy-chick-with-an-attitude, while I usually prefer a more sharp, biting sense of humor. Then I realized that any hint of sarcasm would have been detrimental; a lot of straight or bicurious chicks are already primed to be afraid of the topic, but the author's attitude screams "I'm not afraid and you shouldn't be, either!" There is definitely no sense of mockery in this book, which very quickly put me at ease and all...
When I picked this book out, I actually thought it was going to have more about how gender roles work in lesbian relationships, how flirting with women might be different from flirting with men, coming out advice, dating tips, etc., but I was completely wrong. This is a sex book, and let's be honest, any girl who picks this book up—much less follows the graphic advice written within—is almost certainly NOT 100% straight. The title of this book is way off; it should really be called The Inexperie...
Funny, entertaining, and I learned a lot. I can appreciate Sincero’s efforts to take the stigma out of lesbian sex. However, I also feel like she encourages the stigma. She largely treats girl-girl sex like it’s something we do merely for fun. It’s hot! It’s sexy! It’s two girls fooling around! Part of me doesn’t like her attitude toward it. Overall, I think her intentions were in the right place. I do wish this book had been a little more respectful. I also applaud her for tackling ideas still
This is the kind of book that, if it were possible to go back in time, I would give to my 17 year old self, as I patiently and calmly explained to her that there was nothing wrong with her, and that she'd end up married to a devilishly handsome guy anyhow, but everything that she is feeling is valid, normal, and frankly, FUN!Sincero is fun and sassy. Most refreshing is that there's a certain realness to the playfulness that she uses when discussing girl-on-girl sexuality. I suppose I'm saying th...
Bi/pan-erasure doesn't look good on you, honey. This is a homophobic, transphobic and a sexist piece of crap. Would like to give it 0,01/10 stars. I've picked this book up to see if it was as bad as they are saying. It was even worse.
The Straight Girl's Guide to Sleeping With Chicks by Jen Sincero is, as you might guess, a book for women about how to have sex with other women. From the title and the girly pink cover design, I must admit was initially a little skeptical whether this would turn out to be a quality book. However, my appreciation for the book grew once the author explained in the introduction that her ideal title for the book would be "A Guide for Women Who Usually Have Sexual Relationships with Men and Who Would...
I have read this book cover to cover multiple times (that is a complete lie . . . but I've read the "good parts" dozens of times). The author is absolutely hysterical about a subject that could otherwise be just downright creepy for straight girls. She presents some incredibly insightful and easy to follow "instructions" to anyone who is thinking about "going there" but afraid they won't have the faintest idea what to do once they get there.Be honest with yourself. You wouldn't be reading this r...
This book dives deeply into waters unbeknownst to most of us, of different sexual orientations. This book also contradicts what I just said - It is also for the curious and the doubtful. It inspires you to embrace your sexuality and make the most out of the bodies we have and the people we share it with. The author pen's her own experiences along with breif accounts by other's whom she surveyed for the book, and supplies some humerous yet helpful examples of Barbie in positions with girls along w...
Many women, upon seeing the title of this book, are under the mistaken impression that it is a book to help girl stick her toes in girl-girl dating waters, perhaps guide her through the foreign gender role dynamic, and eventually help her land a hot babe. Not so. This book would be better titled, "The inexperienced girls guide to fucking chicks." It skips all the wining and dining and goes straight to what goes on between the sheets -- in exhaustive and enthusiastic detail. However, once you've g...
This was a very cute and funny book. I really enjoyed the pictures using barbie dolls as examples. I almost wanted to buy this book and leave it lying around for my husband to read, to give him some good ideas about what else girls like. Some of the ideas about getting girls drunk to improve your chances seem sort of lame to me, but I read this for humor anyway so take it at that.
