3 starsMy first Julie Garwood book and I quite enjoyed it. I think personally I would have liked more sexy time, the person behind the bombings was no big surprise and some bits were a bit of a drag.Otherwise I'm interested enough to try the another Julie Garwood book. I think the hot cops are enough motivation for me to try more from this series :)
Decided to give Julie Garwood a go since she'd been recommended to me, but apparently I picked the wrong book or something, because Slow Burn mostly just came across to me as Slow Bore. The blurb was promising, telling me all about how Kate MacKenna was being hounded by things blowing up everywhere she goes, and how said explosions were going to throw her across the path of two different men. And certainly we started off well, with things going splody around Kate as promised.Except that after tw...
2 stars. Terrible. One of the least romantic books I’ve ever read by Julie Garwood. The extra star was for the mystery which was decent. Let’s see… where to begin with this rant? The heroine is a moron because she’s broke, losing her house, her company, and her whole family’s livelihood is in danger. Suddenly, she gets a large unexpected inheritance of over $80MILLION. But her dead uncle (who left her the money) insulted her mummy in his will, so she says “NO, I DON’T WANT THAT DIRTY MONEY!!” And...
I love this series! Only 1 left for me to complete the series....I actually did not expect the who dunnit person(s)
I read this like 3 years ago and liked it, but I'm DNFing it this time. These girls are so freaking ridiculous, it's painful. I am LITERALLY cringing as I read this stupid shit. The main character, Kate, is foolish and immature. Head in the sand, the family martyr, determined to be alone forever, blind to other people's faults. Hella annoying. I hated everything she did and said. She is about to lose everything - car, home, business, can't pay for college - and $80 million just falls in her lap....
Oct 2017 Series Reread and Review 4 Accident Prone Stars!! Dylan Buchanan is a Boston PD Detective on medical leave after being shot. Kate McKenna is a sweet and selfless young woman who runs her own candle and lotion business, she also happens to be Dylan's sister Jordan's bestfriend, who suddenly finds herself the victim of several "accidents". Jordan is concerned for Kate so she persuades Dylan to go to Savannah GA and "look into things". Turns out Kate is the beneficiary of a very l...
3.5 stars rounded up to 4I liked it but didn't love it.I think the story was really good but the only thing that bugged me was the heroine, Kate. Her choices, her way of thinking (or maybe its complete lack of). In other words, she was too daft for my liking and she started annoying me at some point. Also, I expected a slow burn.Well, that wasn't the case in this story so that was a bit disappointing. But the mystery with a twist is here and it's gripping. Like I said, the story is good and I lik...
3.5(🌟🌟🌟.5)stars!Ok so this book was really surprising. While I was reading the book I was constantly thinking who might the criminal be but at last I got to know there were two of them . The first criminal didn't surprise me but..... the other one now that blew me off cz my mind never even went there.I was glad to see that this book's plotting and patterns was a little bit different from the other books of this series we get to see romance pretty early in this bookHowever, can't think much to wr...
"Slow Burn" is the story of Kate and Dylan.Kate MacKenna is the oldest of three sisters, and has been able to overcome all challenges in life- from taking care of her family after her mother's untimely death, to being a pillar of support for her sisters Isabel and Keira, and ultimately running a custom candle business.Life has kept her busy since she returned back home..until a business venture almost kills her, and she decides to de-stress by visiting her childhood friend Jordan, who has some t...
I am a huge fan of Julie Garwood. So I wasn’t surprised that I loved this book. In this book we have strong characters with a smooth storyline.
It seems Kate McKenna was born under a lucky star. She has survived two bombings, as well as a near fatal hit and run.She would tell you she has no enemies ... but that was before she found out a distant uncle left her millions of dollars in his will. Now there are many more suspects to investigate.Detective Dylan Buchanan is the brother of her very best friend and former college roommate. While visiting her friend, she winds up have a one night stand with Dylan. And Dylan is watching her back ....
The story of Kate, one of three sisters whose life is in danger when she suddenly becomes an heiress, and Dylan, her best friend's brother and detective, who is determined to protect her.Kate wants nothing to do with her unexpected inheritance, but (view spoiler)[changes her mind when her despicable cousins badmouth her mother. While she had no idea who would want her dead before she found out about her new situation, she has a number of people in mind now, and Dylan's investigation into her new...
This was the last book in Buchanan-McKenna-Whatever series in my TBR list. I'm just addicted to Julie Garwood's books - both contemporary and historical and I was longing to read this one - need to say that I read this series totally out of order.Well, maybe my expectations were too high. Truth is, I like this book, but is not the best one in the series for me. My fav so far is Killjoy and oh, how I miss John Paul. The plot of Slow Burn is kinda weird. I didn't feel much chemistry between the ma...
4.5 stars
Ms. Garwood's contemporary work is vastly enthralling and I'm loving all the mystery in it.What I love about this series is the amazing unexpected twists it contains, and the fact that it's not predictable. Usually I can sense the bad guy from the beginning or the middle of the book, but in this series I didn't know till the author herself revealed his identity, and I think this shows how much of a great writer she is.- The relationship between the main characters was amusing, one second they tr...
I like this series and think Julie Garwood has created compelling male leads in the Buchanan family. While this is an interesting story, Kate is a fairly bland character even though her background would suggest otherwise. Dylan is pretty well fleshed out and thank goodness we see a lot of him in the story. It's a good read but not on the level of Heartbreaker and Mercy. I was able to figure out the culprit in the mystery but there is a surprising twist to compensate for that. It was worth my ti...
Another Amazing BookJulie Garwood writes the best books! This is another one I’m sure to re read. This is one of my favorite series.
I am shocked this was written by Julie garwood my only guess is that she was very bored when she wrote it.The story is not at all well written (too much ideal chatter with no point to make and a very slow pace that make you go mad and not in a good way.The characters are not at all realistic and lack any link to logical thinking and the story background is worthless. Its a shame really as i realy enjoyed the rest of the books in the series but every one fails every now and then. This is my opinion...
Author: Julie GarwoodFirst published: 2005Length: 353 pagesSetting: Contemporary. Silver Springs near Charleston.Sex: Explicit at the beginning (sexual tension as a result of one night stand). Closed door or fade to black thereafter.Hero: Boston Detective on injured list.Heroine: Owns a candle/perfume company. The start of the transition between Garwood's early, complex stories and her later single plot more erotic books. A good story but it doesn't hang together as well as others.Still really en...
I am so glad this one end up to my liking. Dylan Buchanan a Boston based cop who was on a mend from being shot in the line of duty was sent by his sister Jordan to her best friend Kate MacKenna, insisting that she look into the dangerous situations that Kate seems to be in. Kate has been having a real bad week after being almost blown up twice and then run down by a car. Although thanks to wonderbra she escaped death the first time that was morbidly hilarious. Daylan and Kate have a long history...
I wanted to like this one. I did. I liked Dylan, I thought he was an interesting Buchanan brother (Didn't dethrone my favorite, Theo, for those keeping score) and yes, I fell for that lazy sort of devil-may-care attitude he had, and that he had a long-standing flirtatious back and forth with the female lead, Kate MacKenna, who happens to be his sister Jordan's best friend. Combining those elements of getting to see Jordan, of another Buchanan brother, and a Southern setting, I was hoping for ano...
Re-read June 2017This one is lots of fun - it has an intricate plot, and great characters... Kate and Dylan are both fantastic, and their relationship struggles are fantastic.Teeny quibble is that Isabel, the youngest sister, bugs the ever-living crap out of me. And I also would like to punch in the face everyone who acted like Kate didn't have every right to be upset that the business she built had been signed away by her mother. (view spoiler)[Yes, in the end we find out that's not true, which...
The fifth book in Julie Garwood's Buchanan-Renard series. Kate MacKenna and her sisters are continuing on with their lives after their mother died one year before. Kate has her own business making scented candles and lotions. She goes to Boston to be there for her friend, Jordan Buchanan, while she undergoes some medical tests. During a weak moment she ends up in bed with Jordan's brother, Dylan. Now it appears that someone may be wanting her dead. Hearing this, Dylan rushes to South Carolina to...
Slow Burn is like those Sunday roasts your mother used to cook. It falls more into the category of satisfying than surprising or challenging. Personally I think there is a lot to be said for satisfying and I enjoyed this book a lot.
A nice fun installment in Julie Garwood's contemporary romantic suspense series. However, it just didn't grab me as much as others in the series. I even figured out who was behind everything before the unmasking. That never happens to me.
Another wonderful Romance/Suspense. Date and Dylan are great characters that will have you wanting to move south. Again the Buchanan men! You will not want to put this down.
3/5; 3 stars; B-This was a pleasant addition to the Buchanan series. Nothing too surprising but good company in the form of an audiobook while doing boring housework.
Yet another book I wouldn't normally have picked up but ended up reading because there was nothing else around. Definitely not my type of reading!
more like 3.5, liked it, could have loved it but it was a bit predictable in some sense.
This series is great. It has ups, downs and unbelievable happenings.
