Another good read.
This origins book gives you a quick background on Cyclops, Iceman, Emma Frost, Nightcrawler, and Deadpool. I've read X-Men for years, off and on, so I pretty much know the backgrounds on Cyclops, Iceman, and Nightcrawler. I'm trying to adjust to the idea of Deadpool being an X-Men, he's funny, so I'm adjusting. Being a long time X reader, however, I still don't like or trust Emma Frost....never been a huge fan of Cyclops', but I love love love any story about Nightcrawler.
All these comic nerds on goodreads hated this but it really wasn’t that bad!!! The Iceman, Nightcrawler, and Deadpool art was all great. My biggest problem is that these writers don’t know how kids think or talk. Didn’t spoil it for me, though!
I'll review X-Men Origins and X-Men Origins II together since they're so similar.X-Men Origins covers a wide array of X-Men characters, but don't expect it to be like the movie versions of X-Men Origins, which follows a continuous story. No, these are short vignettes that only give a small dose of the origins of these characters. Each character might have many different kinds of powers, from the ability to turn into steel or the ability to kill a person by giving them a massive migraine, but the...
So the artwork on all stories EXCEPT white Queen was exceptional. However the origins story on Bobby Iceman does not line up with any other origins lately. The story for white Queen with her father is fascinating but the execution of how Shaw finds her is inane and not based on any kind of adult relationship ever and just bizarre, and the odd artwork doesn’t help the story at all. It was just kind of cringe really.
Another wasted collection of new takes on old origins. The one thing that connects all of these is how incredibly manipulative Professor X actually was. Overall, nothing new here.
A couple of these stories are ok, but most of them neither provide any new information nor particularly enlighten the character. I don't know exactly why this volume exists.
I loved this book, the stories are very compelling and I read through them in what felt like a second. I am kind of a new X-Men reader, so to know their origins is awesome. I liked the Kurt and Ice Mans best :)
These stories were in a lot of cases better than the first collection. I liked that some of the villains were given a backstory, and I always like to see Nightcrawler get a moment to shine because he's just so intriguing. But who made this collection for me? Freakin Deadpool. By far the best story out of both books.
Good enough for those who want a review of the origin tales for some and more valuable to those who don't know much about it. OVERALL GRADE: B minus to B.
Meh.Could take or leave the majority of this book (Thank you Library) but the final Deadpool origin story had me laughing so hard I was nearly in tears!
Another collection of re-vamped origin stories that nobody asked for and nobody needed. As more background information gets added and these character bios get continually tweaked and overcooked, publishers need to play catch up and try to make some sort of sense from all the continuity that’s been accumulated. The fact that this collection is written by some of Marvel’s second stringers doesn’t help either.Let’s start from the best and go to the worst:Iceman: This one hews fairly close to the ba...
Short backstories on some of the classic X-men universe characters, with some retro throwbacks to when they were first(?) seen. Emma, Scott, Kurt, Bobby, etc. are each given some origin. Slightly too short for my tastes, but still an enjoyable read.
(A missed book from the great x-read of 2017/18...)Well, this is slightly rewritten versions of several X-Men origin stories. For the most part, I prefer the original takes and don't see the purpose of most of these. I will say that I really enjoyed Iceman's tale.
The origin stories of Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Emma Frost and Deadpool.
So, there was a lot going on with this book and it worries me greatly that I picked up II before its predecessor. They tried really hard and on some points I was in, it was a decent set, or rather a decent attempt at a book of origins but at the end of the day it fell flat and I was somewhat bored. I actually fell asleep at work reading this book and trust me, I know I am almost always tired theses days but I wasn't that tired. Nightcrawler and Emma Frost's stories were probably the most solid b...
A mixed bag, but I think the Deadpool movie captured what was missing in this book. The screenwriter wanted to know who Deadpool was before he was Deadpool. And isn't that what an origin book is really about. And yet these were mostly too short and not deep enough. And they changed Kurt's story, and the newer one isn't better. Bobby's was actually pretty good. Scott Summers was written as a jerk, but he just about always is. The Emma Frost had interesting bits but then it jumped too far. And Dea...
Awful. Just. So. Bad.Not a single one of these origin stories aligns with established 616 continuity. It was painful to read.
Not bad, not great. I'm always happy to get some background stories and some of these were quite fun to read. Just nothing that truly wowed me in any way ...
meh.
