It is a common aphorism that life rarely works out the way that you planned it and this too was the experience of Business owner, Barry Bassett. He has written a book during the lock-down, which tells the true story of life in a family business, as a tempestuous ride from one crisis to another and overcoming near certain financial ruin on multiple occasions. The great news is that this story has a happy ending and is told with the author’s positive, witty and quirky view of life. Barry started writing on day 8 of the lock down and didn’t stop until it was complete and the book is illustrated by his son, Josh Bassett. A website provides lots of pictures, videos and stories from the book and which includes a video of an unforgettable wacky-custard-condom sports day which was held at Keele University in the summer of 1998. Barry recalls, “Already having secured a donation of 300 condoms from Durex and custard powder from a local food producer, I had a brainwave when we unearthed an old bath which had been buried somewhere on the campus that we could create our own version of the 1980s classic family gameshow, ‘It’s a Knockout’ for RAG; the twist was that it would be based on custard-filled condoms!” Watch what happened on www.fullexperienceliving.com Amazon.co.uk reviews. A perfect antidote to our troubled times. It's full of positivity and energy, and is written with pace and lightness. It feels like it's been created effortlessly, a rare skill which makes for a delightful read. Kieron Seth This is a great Little Book. I read it in more or less one sitting. Working in a similar business sector the lessons within are interesting and it's nice to see that a dose of optimism and a lot of hard work and execution win the day. I have always found the company which Barry writes about in the book a pleasure to deal with and had often wondered why this was the case and this book tells me why. Highly recommended excellent book which is at once informative and very encouraging! Bill Mountain. Barry is the owner of a rental company hiring equipment to television production companies. In this book he takes us on a journey exploring the history of the company his father started. Along the way, he has to deal with a sequence of major events that all threaten the very survival of his business. With his never give up attitude he explains how beyond all odds he managed to turn his company around and repair the strained relationship with his father. Whilst not just a remarkable story of entrepreneurship, Barry somehow manages to weave into the pages tales of his travels, how to make the perfect Cappucino and provides us with many inspirational thoughts throughout this gem of a book.
