A little girl has lost her favorite bear. Her parents tell her to be a detective and learn to keep track of her things. Her older sister offers an unusual suggestion which helps to locate some missing items, but not the bear. The girl becomes so involved playing with the rediscovered items that she forgets about the bear until bedtime. In the end, she turns out to be the best detective!
Jules Feiffer is a favorite of my Dad. I like that his stories are always quirky and odd. I also like that his illustrations manage to capture the perspective of a child where everything is huge and your bookshelf goes on forever and ever. I don't want to ruin the surprise for you, but the bear gets found.
Wonderful depiction of a little girl's anxiety about her missing teddy bear. Cute and realistic "hunt" for teddy, complete with distracted and moralizing parents, grumpy yet helpful older sister, and many distractions.
After adoring Bark, George, I was interested to read more of Feiffer's children's books. This may have been a little too old for my 5 year old - I found the text and pictures jumbled to a degree that made it a little challenging for me to take in, especially compared to the clarity of Bark, George. It was funny and evocative of many emotions, though.
A little girl has lost her bear. With the helpful suggestions of her family (be a detective, look for yourself so you can learn to put things away, and throw another stuffed animal) she finds many things she has lost, but not bear...until she crawls into bed. I love the way her little hyper mind thinks - lots of imagination and angst over the loss of "Bearsy" My little kids were so excited that she found her bear that they cheered. Cartoon speaking bubbles and lively pictures make this s fun rea...
This comic book-style kids' book is awesome. Its emotional honesty should make it mandatory reading for three to five-year-olds: no one will help you look for your bear, kid. Your precious bear will even slip your own mind until you really need it, and only through the grace of God will you ever see your bear again.
This is my daughter - the drama queen! "But I know it's gone - forever." (Life is so tragic!) "I cried to my mother. 'I c-c-c-c-could-could-couldn't finnnnnnnnnd her becauuuuuuse yoooooouuuuuuu would-would-wouldn't hellllllp meeeeeee!'" (Sound familiar?)
I am a huge fan of Jules Feiffer's political work. I'm nearly entirely on the opposite side of his political stances and talked about that with him. However, I love his work and have every collection of his work in my library. He is brilliant!!!These children's books he's gotten published do not reflect that brilliance. These do reflect his Very New York view of life. Thing is, that way of life is not everywhere else. His little girl character here is overly emotional and he's written the parents...
2.5 - I didn't find this all that great but Julia seemed to like it more. This was the first "comic-type" book Julia's had so maybe that had something to do with it, a new layout and all. The story follows a little girl who lost her bear. Any parent has been through a situation either exactly like this or very, very similiar. But that doesn't, IMO, make it worthwhile storytelling. I don't know, it just wasn't anything I'd go around recommending to people.
For anyone who can relate to those space-cadet turned dramatic moments their children tend to have. I absolutely love this book. Make sure you add character when reading it, it just makes it that much better. Hilarious.
A fun book for children (and me).
I'm not crazy about Jules Feiffer's frenetic illustration style usually but it fits the story and mood here perfectly. It captures the range of activity and more importantly emotion that the little girl goes through in trying to find her favorite stuffed toy. A reassuring book to children and nice way to talk about feelings in those moments of childhood crisis.Recommended ages 3 through 8.
Well-known cartoonist Jules Feiffer has in this book created a terrifically charming, perceptive story about a girl who has lost her stuffed bear, and now must retrace her steps in order to find it. The girl receives little assistance from her parents or older sister, but the involvement that they do have along the way is very funny, especially where the oldest sister is concerned. The whole stream of conciousness of the story is really good, totally realistic and sensitive to the perspective a
A Weston Woods production of animation. The trevails of a kid looking desperately for her lost bear. Told by her mother to be like a detective, and remember where it was last.
A relatable children's story about a little girl who loses her bear and becomes a "detective" to find it again!
In this comic style book, a little girl loses her teddy bear and can't find it anywhere. To make matters worse, no one will help her find it either! I really liked the way it was done in ways like a comic book mixed with a picture book. I think children will really enjoy reading this book because they should be able to relate to the little girl's dilemma.
After losing her bear, the little girl pulls out all the stops to locate her favourite stuffed animal. Seeking parental and sibling assistance, she is shunned and disintegrates into a puddle of tears. Her detective work must take an unorthodox turn and only then does it yield results. Neo loved the story and knew from the get-go (so he says) that he could locate the bear. A wonderful story told in read-along format.
I think parents will related to the picture of children and the picture of sibling dynamics as well this book illustrates.
When a little girl loses her favorite bear she grows very upset and frantic. She searches everywhere. She begs her family members for help but to no avail, they want her to learn her own lesson about misplacing things. Although her sister won't help, she does give her a good idea. She gives her a stuffed animal and tells her little sister to throw the stuffed animal up in the air and it should find her missing bear. When the girl starts throwing the stuffed animal she starts finding other mispla...
Peppo re-read this one to Flora and she really enjoyed it, and asked for it again, and was seen "reading" it to herself, so I'm updating the rating-on-Flora's-behalf to 5 stars as of February 2008.
