A substance abusing mother and an alcoholic grandmother gave Emory many reasons to possess low self worth, during her life as a teenager. Due to lack of guidance at home, she was forced to depend on other people for acceptance, love, and approval. Evidently looking in all of the wrong places, Emory only found herself tackling one challenge after another, definitely more than what a poor young girl her age could handle. Although experiencing a feeling of helplessness, she'd realized she was not hopeless, and because of this, Emory quickly learned that it was time to learn to love and believe in herself, even if it meant standing alone.
