John Andrew Boyle. British orientalist. After wartime service with the Royal Engineers he spent some time working in the Foreign Office before taking up a teaching post at Manchester University in 1950.

He translated several medieval Persian historians and was a member of the editorial board of the Cambridge History of Iran.
