Alexis Hall

4/5 ( ratings)
Genrequeer writer of kissing books.

Here’s where I stand on reviews: I read what I feel like reading, and I review what I feel like reviewing. If I’m rapturous about a book, it’s because I felt rapturous. If I’m not rapturous, it’s because I didn’t. I don’t give star ratings because I don't enjoy getting qualitative about art and I only review within my own genre if I have very positive things to say. Of course, reviews are as subjective as books themselves and what I feel is very positive may not match what you feel is very positive. But if you’re an author: you probably shouldn’t be reading reviews of your own work anyway. They’re not for you and most likely they’ll just make you feel shitty.

I review because I like books, I like talking about books, and I believe open discussion is good for both readers and writers. I believe we live in a world that has necessitated the development of sophisticated mechanisms for filtering and assessing information about products we’re interested in: all of which is to say, I don’t believe anything I ramble on about here is going to hurt anyone’s career. I don't have the power and it would be fucked up if I did. Your career is yours. A GR review is just a GR review.

All of which said, if it's brought to my attention that the review seems to be in bad faith, or someone has been personally hurt, I'll remove it. That's not an issue.
