David Masterman was born in 1954 and grew up on the island of Jersey in the English Channel, a picturesque tourist resort and offshore finance center that, in his words, was "a great place to grow up." After leaving school, he spent time chasing culture in London before coming to the U.S. on a backpacking trip in 1978. Finding himself still Stateside after two years, he realized he had unwittingly become a resident. After spending time in New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, he settled in Southern California, where he has lived since 1985.

David has graduate degrees in literature and theology, as well as a teaching credential and a minor in music. He has two grown-up children.
