Jacqueline de Angelis was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio and comes from a working-class Italian and Polish family. She has lived in California for most of her life.

Her first book, The Main Gate was published by Paradise Press in 1984. She is the winner of the Crossing Boundaries Award for innovative and experimental writing, and a finalist in both the Emily Dickinson and Allen Ginsberg Awards. She has been published in Agni, International Quarterly, Paterson Literary Review, and Another City: Writing of Los Angeles.
