Kimberly J. Bodey

Dr. Kimberly J. Bodey is an assistant professor, member of the graduate faculty, and sport management concentration coordinator in the Department of Recreation and Sport Management at Indiana State University. Dr. Bodey earned a doctorate in Recreation with an emphasis in public policy from the University of Arkansas. She holds a master degree in sport management from the University of Arkansas and a bachelor degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois.Dr. Bodey has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in administrative theory and management practice, organizational leadership and ethics, governance and policy development, and research and evaluation. Her international experience includes working closely with sport administrators and educators in Morocco and Cyprus. Funded by the US State Department, the Sport Management & Leadership Capacity Project was a partnership between Indiana State University, La Federation Royale Marocaine de Football, Hassan II University-Mohammedia, and E’cole des Lioceaux de l’Atlas de Football. This program intended to strengthen the administrative and managerial capacity of sport leaders in Morocco. Workshops and trainings included strategic planning, change leadership, policy development, and risk management. A former Division I track and field coach and director of summer camps, Dr. Bodey has experience in championship event planning and management, resource development and budgeting, rules compliance, and personnel administration. She has presented at various track & field camps and clinics on the principles and practices of coaching as well as field event specific skill development and techniques, strength and conditioning, and risk management. She continues to serve as a member of the Indiana State University’s Athletics Committee and is a USATF certified official. Dr. Bodey has given more than 30 presentations in the United States and abroad. Topics include coaching education, youth development in sport, staff/volunteer training, and rural recreation master planning and fundraising. She recently published an academic textbook titled Sport governance and policy development: An ethical approach to managing sport in the 21st century . She has several publications in scholarly journals and academic textbooks related to policy and procedure development; ethical decision-making; organizational ethics; organizational justice; advocacy; legal authority, jurisdiction, and politics; coaching education; and designing park and recreation facilities. Her research interests include how governance structure impacts ethical decision-making and practice in sport organizations. She has a particular interest in how policies are created, enforced, and evaluated in the sport environment. Dr. Bodey is a member of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, North American Society of Sport Management, National Recreation and Parks Association, Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the Indiana Park and Recreation Association. Dr. Bodey serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Coaching Education. She is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Coaching Education, International Journal of Sport Management, Schole, IPRA Profiles, Journal of Park and Recreation Administration, and LARNet: The Cyber Journal of Applied Leisure & Recreation Research
